A long weekend is the perfect time for a close-by camping trip. We chose Poverty Point Resevoir State Park as our destination. As we registered for our camp site the ranger said that she had someone from Monterey check in the day before. Couldn't believe that Pam and Buddy were there! They stopped off to visit Pam's parents on their way home from Arkansas. Had a nice visit with them and watched the LSU beat Flordia in a last seconds touch down! They left the next morning and we hiked, went to Vicksburg to eat and visit with my Aunt Carolyn. On our way back to the camper we stopped by the Poverty Point Indian Mounds. The park was closed, but we walked the 2-mile loop and saw the mounds.

| Lack of rain in Louisiana has created very dry conditions. This area should have standing water. |
 |
| The trails are okay for young families with young children. I would like to see more intense trails here. Since this is a new park, maybe in the future there will be some trails added. |
 |
| I think the fall colors were due more to drought than fall weather. |

| This guy made his fortune in sweet 'taters! |

| My beautiful Aunt Carolyn! |
