Wild Horse Ministry @ Eva Church of God

October 2010
Mr. Paul Daily of Trout, Louisiana, brought his Wild Horse Ministry to witness to the community of the Monterey area. We saw him take an unbroken, 3-year-old filly and in less than two hours had her saddled and was riding her around the arena. Mr. Daily compared everything he was doing with the horse to his life as he fought against God and then finally accepted the fact that he needed God in his life. It was amazing to watch this horse calm down and accept her "Master."

The program began with prayer and the National Anthem
with Mr. Daily on his horse along with the unbroken
filly.
IMGP2084
Devil, the black dog, assisted Mr. Daily as they
worked the horse around and around the pen.
IMGP2088
Confidence was built by gentle words and a soft
touch.

After about 2 hours, Mr. Daily saddled up the horse and
eased on to her back. She bucked a few rounds and
then settled into a nice trot around the pen.

Thankfully, this storm cloud skirted
around us all the while putting on a
beautiful lightening show.

Poverty Point Resevoir State Park

A long weekend is the perfect time for a close-by camping trip. We chose Poverty Point Resevoir State Park as our destination. As we registered for our camp site the ranger said that she had someone from Monterey check in the day before. Couldn't believe that Pam and Buddy were there! They stopped off to visit Pam's parents on their way home from Arkansas. Had a nice visit with them and watched the LSU beat Flordia in a last seconds touch down! They left the next morning and we hiked, went to Vicksburg to eat and visit with my Aunt Carolyn. On our way back to the camper we stopped by the Poverty Point Indian Mounds. The park was closed, but we walked the 2-mile loop and saw the mounds.

Lack of rain in Louisiana has created very dry conditions. This area should have standing water.

The trails are okay for young families with young children. I would like to see more intense trails here. Since this is a new park, maybe in the future there will be some trails added.

I think the fall colors were due more to drought than fall weather.

This guy made his fortune in sweet 'taters!

St. Catherine Creek National Wildlife Reserve

We drove the jeep along an ATV trail in the Sibley Unit of the St. Catherine NWR following the Homochita River. Saw some wildlife and beautiful scenery. We stopped for a hike to a bird scantuary. It had a neat photography blind that we sat in for a while and took some nice photos.

Scott observing the low level of the Homochita.
